A pit bull mix suspected of attacking 65-year-old Carol Streit, who was found dead in a field Wednesday, was adopted by the victim from Spokane County’s animal shelter but had “no bite history,” according to a county spokesperson.
Streit was located with her dog shortly after 4 p.m. in a field southwest of East Buckeye Avenue and North Custer Road, the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release. A caller reported a woman lying face down next to a dog “with blood on its body.”
The dog, which was not on a leash, was acting “protective” and “aggressive,” which prevented medical personnel from assessing the unresponsive woman’s condition, the sheriff’s office said.
Deputies eventually coaxed the animal away from Streit, who was pronounced dead at the scene, with injuries believed to have been caused by her dog. Court records from a detective on scene said it’s unclear if the injuries were caused by the dog or “from other means.”
Streit’s pants were pulled down below her waist and she was wearing only a sports bra. Her arms were injured so badly that bone was exposed, the records said, and her right hand was missing.
Blood-stained clothing was also found in a field adjacent to Streit’s body .

A mother and daughter are speaking out after their dog was left seriously injured in an alleged attack at Deer Lake Park in Burnaby this week.
Jimi the Shih Tzu-Pomeranian mix was out for a walk with owner Vivian Wen on December 12 when an off-leash Rottweiler approached them. In an interview with Daily Hive, Wen’s daughter Michelle Sit said the larger dog grabbed Jimi in its jaws.
“You know when dogs bite on a toy they will shake their head? That’s like what happened to Jimi,” she said. “He was, like, in the air.”
The dogs eventually separated, with the Rottweiler dropping Jimi. But after the altercation, Wen said the four men walking with the large dog allegedly refused to give her their ID or phone numbers for a report to the BC SPCA. They also allegedly declined to go with Wen to the animal hospital.
The vet told the family Jimi was lucky to be alive — if the larger dog had bit any higher near Jimi’s neck he may not have made it. There were three deep puncture wounds on his side and other lacerations. He’s been stitched up and is recovering at home.

UK – Surrey /Two sheep brutally killed in dog attack (December 9, 2023)
Two rams have been brutally killed following a dog attack in Haxted. Surrey Police are appealing for witnesses following livestock worrying on Bowerland Lane last weekend between, 4pm Saturday December 9 and 6.30pm December 10.
These latest attacks are just the latest in a series of animal deaths. Over the past six weeks officers have received five reports of livestock worrying in the Tandridge area resulting in the deaths of eight sheep. Crimes like this have a huge financial and emotional impact on local farmers, whose livelihood is wrapped up in the health and wellbeing of their sheep.

MIAMI – Authorities are investigating after a 29-year-old man was mauled to death by his own dog in his Miami-Dade County home.
Raisa Pereda, who lives nearby, told Local 10 news that she has interacted with the dog multiple times but never had issues with it before.
“It’s a big dog but I never saw something wrong with the dog,” she said.

Australia – not just dogs : Boy, 12, is circled and bitten by a dingo in the third attack on a popular holiday island in just two weeks
The child was knee-boarding in waters off Fraser Island on Monday, which has the Indigenous name K’gari, when the dog began to circle him.
‘The boy tried to move the dingo on by yelling and moving his arms but as he stepped back the dingo lunged and bit him on the left knee,’ a Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service (QPWS) statement said.

Netherlands – Grandparents acquitted in dog attack that killed their baby grandson (December 22, 2023)

The District Court in Amsterdam acquitted two grandparents in a case regarding the death of their eight-month-old grandson. While the couple was babysitting the boy, their dog, a German Shepherd, bit him on the head when they had let their guard down. The baby died two days later as a result of the bite. The court called it a fatal accident on Friday.
